ABOUT CPE

Critical Systems.
Clear Processes.

Clear Process Engineering is a specialist firm built on combustion, boiler, and thermal systems engineering. Our team came from the OEM side - designing, fabricating, and commissioning the technology we continue to develop today. We also engineer around other manufacturers' equipment in our clients' facilities, bringing the same design-level depth to every engagement regardless of whose nameplate is on the system. With projects delivered across six continents, our starting point is always the fuel, emissions, operating conditions, and project objectives.

Our Mission

To keep industrial steam and energy systems running safely, efficiently, and profitably through rigorous, independent engineering.

OUR STORY

Founded by Boiler OEM Engineers

Clear Process Engineering was founded in 2015 in Covington, Louisiana, by the core engineering and design team of a leading biomass boiler OEM. Our engineers spent years designing stoker, BFB, and CFB boilers for industrial and utility clients across the Americas and Europe. We designed boilers, sized superheaters, engineered combustion air systems, and commissioned the equipment we built.

We started CPE because we saw a gap. Plant owners and operators were making significant capital decisions about their thermal and steam systems, but the engineering available to them came in two flavors: large generalist firms that treated boilers and combustion as one more discipline among dozens, or OEMs whose engineering was limited to the equipment they manufactured. Neither could offer the combination of design-level depth across multiple technologies and the flexibility to supply equipment, engineer around existing assets, or do both on the same project.

We believed there was room for a different kind of firm: one with genuine OEM-depth engineering that also continues to develop and supply its own proven technology. A firm where the same engineer who designs a combustion system also tunes it in the field. A firm that can supply the boiler, the combustion system, or the emissions controls when its technology is the right fit but also engineer around third-party equipment with the same design-level authority when the project calls for it.

That’s what CPE has been for the past decade. Since founding, we’ve grown from a combustion and process engineering consultancy into a multi-discipline firm delivering full engineering, procurement, and construction management services. We’ve delivered projects across six continents, from single-boiler audits to complete greenfield boiler island installations. Our clients return because we earn the next project by delivering on this one.

QUALIFICATIONS

Engineering Tools and Credentials

PE-licensed across multiple US states and British Columbia. In-house capabilities in 3D scanning, 3D modeling, CFD, FEA, pipe stress, structural/foundation design, ARC flash analysis, and controls - so analysis informs design decisions before they become expensive changes in the field.

Professional engineering licenses

Registered PE in multiple US states and British Columbian P.Eng. All deliverables stamped and sealed by a licensed professional engineer.

ASME code design

Section I (power boilers), Section VIII Div. 1 and 2 (pressure vessels), B31.1 (power piping), B31.3 (process piping), and PTC-4 (boiler performance testing).

3D modeling and reality capture

In-house terrestrial laser scanning, drone LiDAR, and photogrammetry. New designs modeled directly over measured geometry for brownfield accuracy.

Advanced analysis

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), pipe stress analysis, pressure relief/safety valve sizing, structural design, and pressure vessel design.

Controls and automation

PLC programming, HMI development, SAMA logic diagrams, controls narrative, I/O lists, trips/permissives/interlocks, PID loop tuning, and instrument specifications.

Field equipment

Ultrasonic thickness testing, flue gas analysis, IR thermography, combustion analysis, transmitters and control valves spanning/calibration, and ultrasonic air leak detection for on-site assessments.

THE CPE DIFFERENCE

Why Clients Choose CPE

Our competitive advantage comes from the combination of OEM engineering roots, technology-agnostic problem solving, and a business model built around long-term client relationships.

Former boiler OEM engineering team

Our engineers come from boiler OEM product development and deployment backgrounds. That means practical design experience with the equipment we now audit, troubleshoot, and engineer for our clients.

Technology-agnostic approach

We start with requirements, not a product catalog. Our recommendations are based on what the project actually needs - not influenced by vendor partnerships or equipment lines.

Full-lifecycle capability

From initial feasibility studies and energy audits through detailed engineering, construction oversight, commissioning, and ongoing fired asset optimization. One engineering partner from concept to commercial operations.

Global project experience

Projects delivered across six continents, with fixed presences in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia. Our performance models, fuel classifications, and design standards have been proven across a wide range of international operating conditions, fuels, and regulatory environments.

Relationship-driven business model

We are responsive, flexible on scope when it serves long-term relationships, and focused on mutual success. Most of our work comes from repeat clients who return because we earned it on the last project, not because of a contract obligation or a multi-year retainer.

Industrial Electrification Expertise

We engineer electric heat pumps, MVR, electric and partially electrified boilers, condensing economizers, and solar thermal systems alongside conventional fired equipment - giving our clients access to the full spectrum of thermal energy options from a single engineering team.

GHG Reduction and Energy Efficiency

We deliver GHG reduction and energy efficiency programs from benchmarking through capital project implementation - starting with operational improvements before moving to alternative energy and carbon capture.
